History

Dr. Mark Grim and Dr. Laurence Popowich are the co-directors of the Valley Institute for Dental Implants. This Institution has been created to offer the latest and most advanced dental implant care in the region.

Dr. Grim and Dr. Popowich were among the first teams of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons trained in the United States by Professor Per Ingevar Branemark. Professor Branemark is widely recognized as the Father of Modern Implant Dentistry.

The doctors have been fortunate to be associated with Dr. Branemark, and to have trained with him on numerous occasions. The have maintained this relationship of one on one instruction in advanced implant techniques through their participation and association with a national study group.

Dr. Grim and Dr. Popowich were the first oral surgeons to place Branemark dental implants in the Lehigh Valley. The first case was performed in 1984 at the Allentown Hospital, which is now part of the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center.

Today, almost all implant surgeries are performed in the office setting under a safe intravenous anesthesia technique. Comprehensive treatments are coordinated in concert with your general dentist or prosthodontist who provide the restorative aspect of care. In addition, other specialists, such as orthodontists and periodontists are consulted for input on treatments in more complex cases.
