Initial ConsultationAll of our patients are asked to have a consultation visit. This appointment will consist of a thorough examination, review of x-rays, and an explanation of your diagnosis and treatment options. This time allows the doctor to properly evaluate your condition, discuss your past medical history, and present medication, review any studies or x-rays and discuss any other medical conditions which could impact your treatment. It is an important time during which you can discuss with your doctor any concerns you have about your treatment recommendations. In addition to the clinical examination performed at the consultation visit, a screening x-ray will often be requested. This is called a panoramic radiograph. This is a specialized x-ray which shows the entire upper and lower jaw structures, including the jaw joints and air sinuses. This x-ray will also give the doctor information regarding nerve tracts in your lower jaw and the position of teeth, impacted teeth, and potential areas of pathology in the jaw regions. It is important that these x-rays are current. They are available to be taken in our office for your convenience. Our office is also equipped with a 3D CT Scanner called the i-CAT. Specialized xrays can be secured in the office without needing to go to the hospital or outpatient CT office. Once all the clinical and x-ray results are reviewed, a treatment plan designed specifically for you will be discussed in detail. Most surgeries can safely and effectively be performed in the office setting. Most patients typically choose intravenous anesthesia. Local anesthesia is also available. On occasion, if certain medical conditions warrant it, procedures may be performed in the hospital setting as either an outpatient or an inpatient. The doctors at Valley Oral Surgery are associated with the Lehigh Valley Hospital Center, The Fairgrounds Surgical Center, and St. Luke's Hospital for these types of procedures. Surgical consents will also be outlined at the consultation visit. This gives the doctor and patient an opportunity to discuss the procedures in detail and review any potential risks and complications as they pertain to each specific individual. In addition, a financial discussion will take place. Insurance benefits will be reviewed, and any patient financial responsibilities will be outlined. All financial responsibilities will be discussed before any treatment is rendered. Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit. |
